What MARC Is
The Multifaith Alliance of Reconciling Communities (MARC) has been a Multifaith Works program since March 2000. MARC is an alliance of non-official persons from a wide variety of faith communities who are working to make the gay/lesbian/bisexual/transgendered/questioning (GLBTQ) community aware that there are faith communities who are open, welcoming, reconciling and accepting of them. MARC also encourages faith communities to become open, welcome, reconciling and accepting of GLBT persons and can help congregations with this process.

Who is Involved
MARC involves approximately 40 people from over 20 faiths or denominations including: United Church of Christ, American Baptist, United Methodist, Presbyterian, Episcopalian, Lutheran, Catholic, Disciples of Christ, Wiccan, Unitarian Universalist, Jewish, Native American, Buddhist and others.

MARC Activities
The MARC speakers bureau has sent representatives to various faith communities to provide information on the reconciling process and has had informational tables at events such as the Justice Conference, Pride Festival, Pride Rally and other workshops.

Honoring Diversity
MARC enables Multifaith Works to better accomplish its stated goal, "To provide educational, commemorative, and celebratory experiences which promote understanding and acceptance of our society's diversity" and one of its fundamental values, "Treating all people with dignity and respect, and modeling behavior that is affirming and respectful of human diversity."

MARC Directory of Inclusive Faith Communities in Washington State
MARC has compiled a directory of inclusive faith communities who are open to and welcoming of lesbian/ gay/ transgendered/ questioning people (LGBTQ). Addresses, phone numbers and each faith communities’ attitude regarding LGBTQ persons are included in the directory. The directory is available at Multifaith Works and at other events and locations throughout Seattle.

If you wish to obtain a directory, please contact Multifaith Works at 206.324.1520 x235 or marc@multifaith.org. A very special thank you to Leo Egashira and Ed Shields for the numerous hours they devoted to this project.
